The journey so far

At the age of 20, after having taken a few images with my father’s old SLR camera, I decided to delve into the art as a bit of a hobby. So, I lashed out and bought my very own film camera and started making images of the things I saw on a day-to-day basis. Unfortunately, due to the cost of buying and then developing a roll of film, I simply couldn’t keep it up and reluctantly sold my equipment. Fast-forward to 2015 and, after many years of not really being able to decide where to make our first big holiday, my wife and I made an impulse decision to go to Antarctica, the 7th continent. At that point, I thought to myself, ‘If you are going to Antarctica the chances are it will be the one and only time, so you had better get a lot of good photos’. So, out I went and bought an entry level DSLR kit with a couple of zoom lenses, thereby beginning my serious journey into the world of photography. And what a journey it has been. I came back from that Antarctic trip with a passion for landscape and wildlife photography, and that passion has never waned. Since then, I have also visited the Arctic Circle to photograph polar bears and even had the fortune to visit and photograph the Galapagos Islands. Like most photographers, it was initially a hobby, but as I developed my art and my eye, it has slowly transformed into a side business and is fast becoming a primary part of my life. I found it frustrating that, in the digital world, our images are often just seen for a few seconds on social media, maybe garnering a like or two, and then are never seen again. I decided to start selling prints on a small scale so those who felt an emotional response to an image could take away something more tangible than a low-resolution image seen for a few seconds on a phone screen. As my work has progressed, I have delved into other genres like pet photography (a natural evolution from wildlife and a fantastic way to create beautiful images of what are for many of us, beloved family members), product photography and sport/event photography. My aim is to bring my personal way of seeing the world into my work and to communicate that wonder to the viewer.
